Who votes in these opinion polls?

Read today that Gillard's popularity rose to 50% because, according to one news poll, people were impressed with her "misogyny" speech.  However, on the ninemsn news website, more than 70% of the voters said they were NOT impressed with the same speech.  So my question is - who votes in these polls and how accurate are they, because the figures just don't add up.
