Why do people keep falling for these scams???

Just read that elderly Australians are being conned out of millions by computer and phone scams.  WHY?  There has been so much publicity about scams and cons, and remember that old adage - "if its sounds too good to be true, then it probably is"!  So, why isn't the message getting through?  I get an average of 5 scam emails per day and I have yet to receive one that I might think twice about.  Usually, the biggest give-away is the poor English and grammar.  Another red flag is why would someone want me to have millions of dollars for nothing????  The phone calls can be annoying and I have lost my temper a couple of times, telling the caller what they can do with their offer, but the best course of action is to HANG UP.  A lot of these elderly people have lived through tough times like the depression and wars, so why are they letting these low-life con artists scam them?  If you want something done around the home, there are lots of organisations out their to help.  Start with your local council, senior citizens, the local paper or the grey army.  If you need a service of any kind, you usually don't have to look further than your neighbourhood or town.  NEVER, ever give money to someone who solicits their services over the internet or by phone.
